Book Review

I really enjoy reading Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan, an award winning book. The story takes place in India. If you’re the kind of person that loves to learn about different cultures and tradition, this is the book for you. Even if you don’t, I still think you’ll enjoy the book because it has a lot more to it. It takes place in India, and even though my not be able to relate to an arranged marriage, I think you can relate to all the feelings that Koly has while going through all that’s happened to her.When I read a couple of pages of the book it caught my attention a lot because, it’s about a thirteen year old girl named Koly that’s having an arranged marriage. I’ve heard of an arranged marriage before but once I started reading this book more in detail, I was shocked in what really has to be done, in order to happen. I like this book a lot also because it had, a message of never giving up. Koly went through many things in her life that were very hard to face, but she did anyway and moved on. Imagine your self in a place where you weren’t wanted, surrounded by people that miss treated you all the time. Some of those things happened to Koly and showed how she got through it, and that’s why I liked the book because it showed a character that fell many times but was strong enough to get back up. A charater that helped her, was a teenage boy named Raji. He was a big part of why Koly turned out so happy. t's a good thing she got back up and tried to make the best of things because little by little, her life got better and better. I really hope you choose to read this book, I promise once you start reading it you wont want to put it down.

Final Romek Post

1. I think that the saddest, most horrifying part of the book was when David had to go that camp, to carry out bodies that were half alive and have dead, covered all over in fleas. I think that it was very descriptive and I thought it was one of the big things he had to face, in order to live. This part of book really grossed me out. I thought if he was very close to dieing just by smelling and looking around him, it must of been really bad.

2. David Faber was very lucky to get to do these kind of jobs even though they sound really bad anyway, but alot better than the other jobs people had to do. Some of the jobs he did that weren't as bad a others are, hauling dead bodies, and worked as a technical worker for a while. These jobs helped him stay alive by getting a little bit extra food, but not enough to make him feel completely better, he still felt really weak. The jobs he got to do, did help him a bit.

3. David got really sick. When he saw and heard people fighting over food, he thought that he was hallucinating things, he couldn't belive the war was ending. I felt really bad when he talked about how he tried to make his way through the crowd to get some of the food, but couldn't. He was very weak and couldn't make his way in for aleast a piece of bread. He discribed the crowd as a pack of dogs. That part really made me sad, knowing that he felt like hes dying. He tried to do as much as he could to keep him self alive, like when he ate grass, and got as much water as he could from the sink, but only managed to wet his lips, with the water cut off from the camp. But soon enough got help.

4. I think that he was so glad it was over, and knowing that he survived it all. David felt really proud because he kept his promise, that he made to his mother. When he finally saw his sister and her husband he, felt really happy, and realized there was a reason to live for. David felt as if he could survive almost anything after what he's been through. And was very happy he had at least a tiny bit of strength to let people know that he's out there and ready to let everyone know what he had to go through during the Holocast.

5. David Faber's book, Because of Romek, should be required reading in all middle schools, high schools, and universities because all students need to learn about the horrors of the Holocaust. I really think that this something that will help in the furture. Some examples of it being helpful in the future would by students knowing the consequences it can bring, so they can help prevent genocides from happening in the future. If everyone out there would read this book, they would cry and feel really bad. I agree and really encourage for all middle schools and high schools and everyone after that to read this book. If students that learn about this at school shar this with there parents, and there parents share it with there freinds, all of them would appreciate alot more in life.

Project Reflection Project Title: Renaissance Project Class: Humanities


PURPOSE:

The purpose of this project was to learn about Renaissance and people that made a difference, at that point of life, I got to be Pieter Brueghel. In order to learn about Pieter Brueghel I did some research on him, and wrote a Autobiography. I learned alot about my person and how he made a difference in life, like how he was one of few Flemish artist that got to express more than just religion on art but he's feels, and what he thinks should be expressed. The Biography was about 3-5 pages long. We had to show what we knew about our person, at the Renaissance Ball, to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The project also ended up teaching us how to dance Pavan, dressed as our person.

WHAT I LEARNED

My person was, Pieter Brueghel he was born in 1525, in the Southern Netherlands. Pieter Brueghel grew up in a large family of artist, him being one of the best artists in the family. He lived with his brother, Jan “Velvet” Brueghel, his uncle Jan Brueghel II, he also lived with his mother and father but there names are unknown. Pieter’s family was active for four generations in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Pieter then got married to Mayken in 1550. He made many paintings and had a very well education, and was very successful.

REFLECTION

I really enjoyed doing this project because it taught me alot about the Renaissance, and about many people who made a difference. I also really liked having the experience, to learn how to dance the Pavan. I thought that this was a really fun way to learn about our person. I enjoyed going around talking to people about myself, as if my person was talking to them. I think that I could of put a bit more effort into the biography. Next time I thin that I could of used my time more wisley. Overall I really enjoyed dressing up as my person and learning so much about him.

I think that I would post my biography on my blog with some pictures of my person and people dancing at the ball.

1. Hearing David Faber speak was incredible. When you read the book it does sound depressing and sad, but when you hear David Faber tell you the story him self you can see the passion he had. I thought that he had one of the most hardest experience ever. I think that he got people thinking about how lucky we all are for having such a safe and free life. I really thought about his experience and, all it did to change his life. His story really made people think about how appreciative they should be for the life they have right now.

2. David was taken away by the Russian Partisans because they thought that he was a German spy. When David helped the Russian Partisans move the train tracks so they could get the trains that were filled up with ammunition, so they would collapse with the Nazi's and blow up. I really thought that this part, was really interesting I don't think that I would of thought of that at that moment. Romek I thought was proud of David because the idea of doing that was surprising and courageous.

3. David was let go because a man in the room thought that David was to young and couldn't possibly be involved in something like his brother was involved in. So I think that is why they let David go, they thought he really didn't know where or what the "Blue Files" were. That is why let him and not his brother go.

POST #2

1. I really liked that part of the book. I thought that everyone got really lucky. The significance of Davids pet pigeon, is that it can sense danger from far away. David's mother was right about the pigeon, I really do think that there was something special about the pigeon, I think that it was more than just a pet. I was really glad that they all did what she said told them to, even though it was just so they can make his mom feel alot safer.

2. I'm not really sure I think that it was just, because they wanted the jews to think that nothing was going to happen to them. I think that maybe it was just to get people to not feel that they were going to get killed. It maybe was there just to confuse them. I can see why they call it vacation camp, maybe it was just because it was alot better than the other camps.

1. I can see that these were VERY difficult times for David. Reading this really gives me a better understanding of what David went through. I think that it's important to read, and know about this because it's had to do with alot of concepts like WWII and how people gave their life for the freedom of the world. I think that this one subject contains many things that, why I'm interested to learn about it. I've learned a little bit about World War II and I think that's its something I want to learn more about.

2. I think that David's family is really close and, they all care for each other alot. I think that by the fact that David went out looking for his father showed alot of courage. David's mom shows that she cares alot about her family, but it also knows very well that anything can happen at this point.

b) I think that sense alot of the action and detail happens in the middle of the book its harder to remember. I also think it's because, David would have to remember the beginning, alot better so we could understand the rest of the book. Maybe it's because his some of his family member died in the book, he would want to remember when they were together.

3. I think that when David went to go look for his father, showed that he brave and determined to know that he is save. David showed alot of characteristics in this part of the book, he showed that no matter what was going on, he needed to find out his whole family was save. David saw someones family die in front of him but his mind was only on his father. David succeeded, and got helped his father escape, and that part of the book showed alot about David.
